History has shown that socio-economic tension in the country due to the country’s backwardness and very slow economic growth, hindered by being landlocked, has been the main and real driver of instability. Even when Afghanistan was peaceful for at least half a century during King Zahir Shah, its economic growth was hindered by the fact that it had been crippled by losing its major international trade market and trade partner which was India and the emergence of Pakistan turned into a land locked country, totally dependent on Karachi seaport of Pakistan for its international transit. The country’s economic development has taken a down spiral ever since. This is something very crucial which needs to be addressed in the light of new developments in the region, and hard decision need to be taken, as the national interests of Afghanistan now match those of the US and the international community, and that is the security of Afghanistan and the world. The outside actors seek to establish self-sustaining political institutions that would eventually allow the government in Kabul to wean itself from outside assistance, as well as the total and complete defeat of extreme groups such as Wahabism (Alqaeda plus Dayesh) and Talibanism, realizing that this goal can never be achieved without overthrowing the current harboring facilities provided to them in Pakistan. There are thousands of Madrasas in Pakistan that serve as breeding grounds for radicalization and terrorist’s incubators that are eventually unleashed on Afghanistan when graduated to kill innocent children, elderly and women there let alone many training centers, HQs and Shura centers for Taliban and other terrorists groups such as Dayesh/ISIS K and Pak grown terrorist groups. The “Islamization” program initiated by Pakistan President Zia-ul-Haq (1977-1988) was specifically designed to suppress ethnic separatism and make Pakistan the global Sunni leader, an effort that eventually led to the proliferation of Islamic terrorist groups within its borders. Pakistan continues to use the Taliban and the Haqqani network as instruments of its foreign policy in Afghanistan, the exploitation of ethnic separatism within Pakistan, such as in Balochistan, remains an option. That is, fight an insurgency with an insurgency. Another consideration is to challenge the Durand Line, the arbitrary 1896 border drawn by British diplomat Sir Mortimer Durand, whereby Pashtun lands currently in Pakistan could be incorporated into Afghanistan to prevent Pakistan from using its Pashtun population as Taliban cannon fodder. Counter Talibanism with Afghan irredentism. The US and coalition forces in Afghanistan as well as the Afghan forces are currently on the brink of losing out to the enemy because Taliban are operating from a safe haven, currently under Pakistani control where they lick their wounds,. They receive training, funds and other military and political support from Pakistan directly and from some (mostly Arab countries) in this strategically important location indirectly. Pakistan, being the vanguard of political Islam in the region, is whole-heartedly behind Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Pakistan, historically ever since its inception has been trying to destabilize Afghanistan, has always attempted to keep Afghanistan deprived of free access to the sea or land access to its traditional market India. Afghanistan has to look for a real solution to this problem that is of vital importance for its survival and prosperity. Pakistan, ever since its establishment is dreaming of keeping a weak and subservient Afghanistan as its western neighbor and still hoping to achieve this ominous goal. Pakistan despite of billions of dollars given in aid have double-crossed the United states of America for 16 years on and proved to be an unreliable ally and a grieve threat to the region and beyond. Pakistan has now emerged as the most violent and defiant terrorist-sponsored state in the region posing threat to the region and the world at large. It has proven to be a permanent source of instability for Afghanistan and India. Soon it will spread its terrorist violence to its neighbouring China and the Central Asian countries, as well as Iran. The world will never see a breath of relief unless this heinous source of instability and violence is addressed in the most serious and radical manner by the countries in the region and the International community.
